Back In The Saddle Again…Mostly

pic 1 Today Mama is letting me wear my striped pajamas all day. I climbed into my chair for lunch and decided to strap myself in. The only problem is…

pic 1 I can’t get myself out…and Mama just wants to take pictures!

pic 1 Last week Mama and I made a really cool oven out of an old cardboard box. Hmmm….I wonder what’s inside???

pic 1 Uh-oh! It’s me! Hey…somebody let me out of here…anyone?…anyone?…bueller?

pic 1 Mama and Papa took me to a UW men’s basketball game. I was seeing RED!

pic 1 We were really high up, but the view was great. (Yes, Papa is wearing blue! BUT it talks about gravity…so I think that’s okay!)

pic 1 Our local weatherman, Bob Lindmeier, said there was a 30% chance of snow for tonight, but what that really means is 70%. So, Mama and I went outside to check and sure enough…the flakes were already starting to fall! The next morning I woke up and said “Nolan wear coat, boots, mittens go outside and make a snowman RIGHT NOW!”

pic 1 And we tried, but the snow was too dry and fluffy. I couldn’t even make a snowball, but…

pic 1 the snow was perfect for making snow angels…

pic 1 shoveling…

pic 1 and snow shoeing through our prarie!

pic 1 Grandpa Sam and Grandma Kathy came to visit us for Thanksgiving…and Papa was his usual silly self!

pic 1 Grandma Kathy also brought the best pumpkin pie EVER and let me lick the pie’s lid!

pic 1 MMMMMMMMMMMMM!

pic 1 We took Grandpa Sam & Grandma Kathy to the park and were surprised to find my friend Kyle and all of his family there. Together, Kyle and I cleaned the snow off of every slide…one by one…

pic 1 and side by side!

pic 1 We also took Grandma and Grandpa to the zoo…brrr…it was chilly, but…

pic 1 they got to see our new Red Panda!

pic 1 After a couple of hours at the zoo…we all took the hint from the Grizzly bear and headed home for a nap! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We are all doing better and good here. Have a great Sunday and we’ll see you next week!

(PS. Congrats to Uncle-ish Scott and his wife, Lorre, on the birth of their son. I’m sure we’ll be in a band together someday!)

To My Devotees…

This week’s major post may have to wait a couple of extra days before it appears. As the behind the scenes writer I have had to succumb to a recent illness. This past Saturday I was diagnosed with Shingles. The virus has infected a nerve connecting my left ear to my left eye. I’m assuming not everyone knows exactly what Shingles is or exactly what it feels like…so I’ve pasted some additional info from WebMD.

What is Shingles?

Shingles is a viral infection of the nerve roots. It causes severe pain and often causes a rash on one side of the body, the left or right. The rash appears in a band, a strip, or a small area. Most people who get shingles will get better and will not get it again.

Shingles occurs when the virus that causes chickenpox starts up again in your body. After you get better from chickenpox, the virus ”sleeps” (is dormant) in your nerve roots. In some people, it stays dormant forever. In others, the virus “wakes up” when disease, stress, or aging weakens the immune system. It is not clear why this happens. But after the virus becomes active again, it can only cause shingles, not chickenpox.
You can’t catch shingles from someone else who has shingles.

Shingles symptoms happen in stages. At first you may have severe migraine type headaches or be extra sensitive to light. You may also feel like you have the flu but not have a fever.

Later, you may feel constant itching, tingling, or severe intense pain in a certain area. That’s where a band, strip, or small area of rash may occur a few days later. The rash turns into clusters of blisters. The blisters fill with fluid and then crust over. It takes 2 to 4 weeks for the blisters to heal, and they may leave scars.

Not a particularly graceful illness, but that’s okay! We’re making it through. I hope everyone had a good weekend and I’m hoping to be back in action very soon!

A Little Bit of Everything…

We’ve been VERY busy this week! Scroll down to see everything we did!!!

pic 1 I read about bugs while I sat on the big boy potty…

pic 1 I pretended to be Picasso…during his pensive blue period…

pic 1 while I decorated birthday presents for two of my cousins.

pic 1 I spent hours building the best car ever with my magnetic blocks…

pic 1 AND took the time to appreciate my work!!! Great job, Nolan!!!

pic 1 And then…one morning we looked outside and noticed that there was frost on our cranberries…so, we decided it must be time…

pic 1 to put up our Christmas tree!!!

pic 1 Yep…I said Christmas tree!!! Mama got a head start while I was taking my nap and that’s a good thing because I don’t have a lot of patience right now and this is one really full bucket of ornaments!!!

pic 1 Do we really have to do this one at a time?

pic 1 Surely there is a faster way!

pic 1 Uh, oh. I have no idea where I should put this one. This is harder than I thought! I think I felt that way last year and the year before too… (see below)

pic 1 pic 1 Oh, yeah. Definitely a complicated job!

pic 1 I know…we just needed some festive music to keep us going. Mama says this decoration is a candle holder, but I swear it’s really a bugle.

pic 1 I think it might even be prettier from the bottom up! Have a great week and don’t forget to buy your turkey (or tofurky) early!!!

Jack-o-Lanterns, Costumes & Chocolate–OH MY!!

pic 1 Last Monday afternoon Mama and I put up the remaining Halloween deocrations. This poor ghost is about to burn more calories than ever before—it’s WINDY!!!

pic 1 Aunt Robyn came over too. She and I wanted to carve a pumpkin together (Mama is too chicken to get her hands diry!)…

pic 1 but I think she looks a little too excited holding that really big knife!!! (Do I need insurance?)

pic 1 Oh! She was just cutting the top off!

pic 1 Yeah, Mama might be right. This is a pretty gooey job.

pic 1 Cool! I’ve never seen inside a real pumpkin before. Well, at least not that I remember. (Will this thing turn into a pumpkin pie when we’re done?)

pic 1 A splash of blue for the hair…a little brown for the nose and eyes and of course some red for the cheeks and mouth–drawing on the pumpkin was the best part!

pic 1 Now…where’s the pumpkin pie?

pic 1 Well, apparently there is no pumpkin pie. However, we do have a really cool cat Jack-o-Lantern…

pic 1 that glows in the dark!

pic 1 Halloween morning I went to visit (and trick-or-treat some) at Aunt Robyn’s work. She was dressed like Dora the Eplorer!! I totally recognized her voice, but I wasn’t sure about looking at her.

pic 1 Then after dinner Mama, Papa and I along with Heather and Kyle went trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. At first, I wasn’t sure what we were doing.

pic 1 But then I saw the play-doh and chocolate at our neighbor’s house…and we were off! (Papa even gave me a chocolate bite when Mama wasn’t looking! Yum!) Let’s go to the next house!!!

pic 1 We saw lots of really cool costumes….including a traveling group of about 6-7 witches! This house had a mini-haunted house set up in their drive-way and garage. It was a little creepy, but the big kids were nice and didn’t jump out at us, plus they gave us chocolate!

I hope everyone had a great Halloween. We’ll see you next week! P.S. Happy Birthday Terese!!!
